Numbness

The following events takes places between 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. on route 13 of Mississauga transit.

3:15 p.m.

Its drizzling outside today. I picked up a copy of 24 hours magazine on my way to the bus stop. Stepped on a puddle of water. Luckily it wasn't deep enough to soak my feet.

3: 19 p.m.

The bus finally arrives. I am a bit wet from the drizzling rain. The bus is packed with highschool students. They are not wearing school uniforms so I'm guessing they are from a nearby public school. I get in the crammed bus where the only place left to stand was right in front by the door.

3:21 p.m.

The bus stops in a major intersection. Most of the students got off the bus at this stop. I got a seat and started reading.

3:25 p.m.

I hear a voice shouting "Does anyone back there need medical attention". It was the bus driver shouting as he pulls the bus over. Apparently someone had told him about a girl who seemed to need medical attention. I was too busy reading about apple's launching of the video iPod. I have just read yesterday about awebsite taking bets on what would Steve Jobs announce on their press conference. I believe the odds for the video ipod was 3:1. Back to the bus, the driver walks to the girl and asks her what was the problem. The girl responds "I can't feel my legs and my arms" as she cries. The driver then walks back to the front and calls for help.

3:28 p.m.

With all that is happening, all I can think of was that I'm gonna miss my connecting bus and would end up late for work. The girl, who probably was around 16 years-old was being comforted by her frineds as we wait for the ambulance to come.

3:30 p.m.

The ambulance pulls over behind the bus. Two paramedics comes in calmly and asks the driver which one needs medical attention. It was pretty obvious it was the girl in tears but they probably just want to make sure. The paramedics then tries to figure out what was wrong with her. Everyone at this point was watching this poor girl's suffering unfold.

3:38 p.m.

After the paramedic's assessment of the situation, they brought her out with a wheel chair to the ambulance. Still, everyone's eyes were glued to them.

3:43 p.m.

A supervisor of the transit pulls over and talks to the bus driver regarding the situation. All I want at this point was that the bus would start moving so I won't miss the next conecting bus. The girl is in good hands now. Lets get the hell out of here.

3:51 p.m.

The bus finally started moving. Everyone started to mind their own business once again.

3:58 p.m.

We arrived at the station. Walked over the the next bus stop to wait for my bus.

4:00 p.m.

I am late for work. This is the second time now. I hope my boss doesn't see me when I get in.

4:02 p.m.

My connecting bus arrives.

4:15 p.m.

Arrived work late. I tried to blend in so no one would see me walking in late. It was pretty much impossible since no one else was standing or walking in the office. My boss didn't ask why I was late so I didn't bother letting her know why. Sometimes its best to leave things the way they are.
